Sprint review

Hi,

This is how I currently understand the sprint review activity.

Expected outcomes of a sprint review

  1. decision: do we ship?
  2. decision: do we continue?

If you play the Scrum game, then the decision to ship is to be made by the Product Owner. Of course, the Product Owner can only ship what the Dev team has delivered as shippable. The common understanding of what shippable means is captured in the Definition of Done.

If you play the Scrum game, then the decision to continue is to be made by both the Product Owner and the Dev team. Both could have something more important to do from now on.

How to play the review

  1. clear a board and create two placeholders, one for each decision to make
  2. iterate until decisions are stable
    1. do we ship? Inspect the increment, the product, the Definition of Done, current market opportunities, …
    2. do we continue? Inspect the Product backlog, future market opportunities, available funding, motivation, learnings, the team composition, …
    3. take a break
  3. close the meeting
